They were given to us by Anna Hyatt Huntington.
And interestingly enough they were sitting on an open bookshelf in a room that the public uses.
A patron came in one day and said, "Do you have any idea of what these are?"
And I did a little research and found out a little bit about her.
APPRAISER: Anna Hyatt Huntington was a leading American sculptor of the 20th century.
She was primarily known as an animal sculptor although she did a number of monuments.
This is a very, very nice pair of bronze sculptures.
They were cast by the Gorham Foundry.
Gorham is a silver company that's very well known in Providence, Rhode Island.
They did very, very fine castings.
These are done in the lost wax process which gives them a wonderful amount of detail and the patination is very, very good on these.
They are signed with her name and it also has the foundry mark.
They're wonderful pieces.
As I said, most of her work is animal sculpture so these are particularly rare because of the figures.
They would be worth in the neighborhood of $5,000 to $7,000 at auction.
GUEST: Oh, that's exciting.
I think most libraries in New England have pieces like this and we have no idea what we have.
APPRAISER: Yeah, that's wonderful.
GUEST: It's kind of fun to find out what we really do have.
