Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipHello, I'm Bonnie Erbe.
Welcome to TTC Extra.
Homeland security agents have raided homes owned by Sean Diddy Combs, the music mogul, in connection with a sex trafficking investigation.
This comes after a bombshell lawsuit filed by a former producer who allegedly sexually assaulted him and committed a litany of other crimes relating to drugs, prostitutes and violent acts.
Last year, Diddy's ex-partner, R&B singer Cassie, filed a lawsuit alleging rape and physical abuse during their relationship, which was quickly settled.
Diddy has denied all allegations.
So Tiana, what's going on here?
Is this guy going Hollywood.
Sex pest, creepo weirdo that everyone knew about.
That you had videos of someone like Usher saying, oh yeah, I was living in his house when I was 14, and I was exposed to all sorts of sex and drugs, and I'd never let my kid do it.
So this wasn't exactly concealed, right?
You videos of him being weird with Justin Bieber, it just creepy weirdos with a lot of power and money and access that have been doing this right in front of everyone spaces for decades.
So more justice is better.
But it wouldn't surprise me.
No one actually knows where he is.
So I mean, if he's in a country that extradition to the US, he could sat there.
Roman Polanski is still out there.
Your thoughts, Donna?
Well, look, I think that, people have wondered whether the MeToo movement had kind of dissipated.
And the reality is that, whether you're in the music industry or Hollywood or you were in, ordinary person living in a neighborhood, that there can be accountability when, sexual assault occurs and when there's abuse and that accountability could take place in the civil courts, or it can take place in the criminal courts.
And I just hope that that accountability comes for these women, and, and victims.
And, Sean Combs is going to have to answer for that.
I'm not sure who his majority buyers are, women or men, but why would women ever buy music from a guy like that?
Who can answer that for me?
I agree with you, Bonnie.
I think, this is like Tiana said, this has been going on directly in our faces so often within this genre and other genres too.
We accept it, we elevate it, we monetize it, and it's been going on for decades, and it's only now it's like, oh, we're going to clutch our pearls.
He sang about it.
It's in the lyrics, this type of behavior.
So why are we then shocked that he's actually living out what they sing about?
If you're a black conservative like Larry Elder or Thomas Soul or Jason Riley, they've been saying this over and over and over.
People call them an uncle Tom.
If you're white like me, oh, you're a racist.
No, a fact is a fact.
A sexist and disgusting lyric is a is a disgusting lyric.
Look, just because somebody writes a lyric doesn't mean that they act on it.
And so I think that we really have to make a distinction and where people are acting on, what they're writing about, then they need to be held accountable.
Bonnie, what's so important about this case is that we're seeing accountability, like Donna spoke to.
And there are so many survivors out there about, domestic violence as well as sexual assault.
It's common.
No one should be above the law.
And I'm glad to see this process playing out in the courts.
Thanks for watching.
