I'm a singer, songwriter, musician.
You know, during the pandemic, we couldn't get together and, and sit and experience music.
One of the things we missed was that, that togetherness, that sort of feeling, the sort of the same emotions at the same time with a bunch of other people.
So I hope everyone enjoys it and gets something out of it.
Yeah.
Seeing how this is a, a sort of cultural exchange between our two places, I would, I thought I would sing my song about living in St.
John's, growing up in St.
John's, being a musician.
Anyway, this is a song about, about all that.

I'm a local musician based out of Columbia, South Carolina, and funnily enough, 10 years ago was when I started working at Willingham's.
Um, I was pouring concrete for septic tanks and, um, stacking lumber, um, selling toilets.
Uh, that's what I was doing for nine or 10 years in 2015, 2016.
So when they asked me to actually play for Willingham's, just a blast from the past, and so it was, it was so interesting to walk into this building that I haven't been in, in 10, in 10 years, and it just, it's incredible to see all the equipment and cameras everywhere.
And so it's just, it's incredible.
My name is Chris Reid.
The first song I'm gonna sing for you is based on a book from an author, he's from Newberry, and the, the book's title is "The Whispers of Newberry Grove."
The main character, Sarah, she falls in love with a guy named Tom, who's a toy maker.

VILAI: My name is Vilai Harrington.
I'm based out of Greenville, South Carolina.
My influences come from what I heard on the radio.
A lot of outlaw country, a lot of, uh... And then, being from where I am, it's a lot of beach music and soul, like James Brown and Blind Willie McTell.
As I got older, I kinda just figured out my own perspective of it, instead of, going to classes in college.
So after I dropped out, I decided to give this thing a go, and move to Greenville, and been doing it for 10 years now, and it's been great.

I grew up in a small town in South Carolina, and a lot of family that's, many generations there, up to nine generations, and then my dad, had a short stint in South Carolina, but he moved back to Honolulu, Hawaii when, when I was seven.
And, just all the things in between.

I, have a great-grandmother, who was a war bride.
She's 99 years old, still living, man, and I've been very lucky to have her in my life.
When I play this song, I think of her and her experience and my, and my great-grandfather, who also served in the 59th Regiment, I believe, in, in World War II, so.
Uh, this is kind of a fabrication, a story of sort of imagining myself in that role as a, as a young person, and just that feeling of missing home and just doing whatever you could do, whatever it takes to get home.

When I first got brought the idea, I was like, "This is amazing, and there should be more, of it."
And I've, this is my fourth country that I've played, different country that I've played, and that is just, it's very unique, and I love it.
Pleasure to be here.
But, this song right here, I wrote with my good friend Joe Costa in, Nashville.
We had a mutual friend, that was struggling with the, alco, alcoholic beverages.
So, before he got, ended up going, getting sober and all that stuff, and we ended up writing this song about him.

And it's funny, but, yeah.
But, definitely listening to certain types of music influences your songwriting.
Here's one of them, it's called "Doin' Fine."

Uh, so Jeff used to play with a guy named Matt, and then he started playing with me, and a friend wanted to book us.
We had no band name.
Our friend said that I was prettier than Matt.

14 years later.

I, I do answer to it.

They're super friendly, and we got to hear a little bit of their soundcheck, and so we're like, "Man, they sound amazing."
It's pretty cool.
JEFF: And also it's been amazing, when we had, got to ride up, fly up with our South Carolina people that we didn't really know.
Uh, so that was a bunch of new friends that we can see back home, and then here, of course, with Jennifer, she was great.
She came right up and started talking to us.

JEFF: And I mean, l, 'cause I'd saw, seen their Facebook post about the show, and I watched it, like, 10 times hearing her talk, 'cause I loved her, her voice.
So I can't wait to hear them do this and perform and stuff.
