Third grade is a pivotal year for students - often referred to as the time when students switch from learning to read to reading to learn. Students not reading at grade level by the end of third grade will find it difficult to keep up and risk not graduating. Curriculum in fourth grade and beyond, students will build on these reading and analytical skills.
