Hey Cathy!
Wait for me.
I missed the bus.
Can I go home with you and your dad?
Cathy> We'll have to ask daddy.
Hi, daddy.
Dad> Hi, Cathy.
Jane.
Did you have a nice day?
Cathy> It was okay.
I guess.
Jane> She forgot about the spelling test today.
Cathy> Yeah, and I didn't do so good on it.
Dad> Well, it's up to you to remember things that are important to you.
Maybe you should write your assignments down.
Cathy> I will, from now on.
Is it okay if Jane rides home with us?
Dad> Sure.
Jane's house is right on the way home.
Jane, we'll have to stop and pick Paul up on the way to the nursery.
Jane> That's okay, Mr. O'Neill I'm not in a hurry.
Dad> I have one more thing to finish in the office before I leave.
Well, why don't you go out to the car and I'll be right there?
Cathy> Okay.
Dad> This place is a mess.
Where does all this stuff come from?
Sue> Hi, Daddy, Cathy, Paul.
Cathy> See where it comes from?
Dad> I guess we're all guilty of leaving things where they shouldn't be, but we just don't have enough places to put everything.
Change your clothes, Cathy.
Cathy> May I go play with Jane?
Dad> Do you have much homework?
Cathy> No, sir Just a little bit of arithmetic.
Dad> Are you sure you haven't forgotten anything?
Cathy> Not today.
Sue> I'm going to the library.
I have a report that's due tomorrow.
Dad> Well, Sue be home early.
Sue> Oh, I will, Dad.

You try not to mess up anything else while I start a fire.
Paul> Okay.
(fire crackles) Cathy> Mom make Paul stop.
Mom> Paul!
Stop that!
It's almost your bedtime.
Why don't you start picking up your toys?
Dad> I think we've done that once already today.
You know, I wish Paul had a room of his own where his toys could be left out.
Sue> I'd like a room of my own, too.
I'm too old to share a room with a little sister.
Cathy> I want a room too.
Sue's always on the phone talking to boys.

Sue, why don't you take Paul to bed?
I need to speak to your father.
Sue> Oh, why do I always have to do everything?
Mom> Sue!
Cathy> Good night, Paul.
Mom> Good night.
Paul.
Dad> Good night.
Paul.
Mom> I talked to Mr. Davidson today about my new job.
He says it's going to be a lot of extra work and extra time.
Dad> I know, Alice but it will mean extra money.
And we sure can use that.
Mom> I know, the money certainly would come in handy.
You know, we really do need a larger house.
Paul needs to have his own room.
Cathy and Sue can share a room, but it would be nice if it was larger.
And, Tom, another thing we need to consider.
And that's my mother.
Dad> I know your mother shouldn't be living by herself.
I'd like to have her come stay with us.
She'd be great with the children, but we just don't have enough room for her.
Mom> You know, with my new job, we'd have more money.
And with mother taking care of Paul, we might be able to afford a bigger house.
Sue> Are we going to get a new house?
Dad> Well, we'll have to see about that.
So don't get excited yet.
You know, Alice, we might be able to swing it.
If we could find the right house.
Well, let's talk about it and see what we want in the new house.
Mom> Well, it would have to have a large kitchen.
And with a dishwasher.
Sue> Well, I'd like a room of my own.
Cathy> Me too.
Dad> Well, it would have to have a fireplace.
And I don't want one if it doesn't have a fireplace Mom> And a nice large den.
Dad> Yeah.
Alice, I'm going to see about teaching a night school.
That'll mean more money.
You know, we really need four bedrooms if grandma comes to live with us.
Sue> But Dad, can't we get a house with five bedrooms?
Then Cathy and I won't have to share a room.
Dad> A four bedroom house is really more than we can afford.
I think a five bedroom house is out of the question, but we'll see.
Mom> Girls, with my new job, I'm going to be working late.
