Thank you, Lyle.
Thank you, Emmylou.
Thank all y'all for coming out and helping us celebrate year number 40 of "Austin City Limits."
Thank you.
[Cheers and applause] Thank you, Matthew.
Now, there really would be no "Austin City Limits" without Willie Nelson.
It's as simple as that.
He did the original pilot program in October 1974.
Hundreds of programs and thousands of artists later, "Austin City Limits" has become the longest-running music program on television ever.
[Cheers and applause] He's been called Saint Willie.
[Laughs] There's a 10' statue of him in the middle of downtown Austin on a street called Willie Nelson Boulevard.
[Cheers and applause] He's always been larger than life, a living legend.
He's an icon, an inspiration to many.
Will everyone please join me as we salute the one and only Red Headed Stranger?
[Cheers and applause] NELSON: Thank you very much.
I've said it 100 times or more.
Austin is a good place to be, and I'm glad y'all are here with us, and this is a great honor for me, so thank you very much.
[Cheers and applause] Next up... You know, there were several people involved in the idea of "Austin City Limits," but there was only one guy who made it happen.
If Willie is, in many ways, the heart of "Austin City Limits," Bill Arhos was the driving force, the spirit, that kept the show going for 30 years, until he retired.
But please join with me as we honor Bill Arhos.
[Cheers and applause] All right, let's get him up here.
Bill Arhos.
Bill?
[Cheers and applause] This is a great honor for me, and I appreciate it very much.
I was going to run out "Funny How Time Slips Away" when I heard the 40-year thing, and it is funny how it slips away, 40 years down the road.
It's a little intimidating to -- [Coughs] Pardon me -- be in a class of the first inductees, and three out of the four have bronze statues hanging around.
I got...
I got a stainless steel fingernail clipper.
[Laughter] Thank you very much.
[Cheers and applause] Thank you very much.
Thank you.
Now here's the former National Champion University of Texas Longhorns football coach Mack Brown.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
I'm so honored to be here representing the family of one of our great friends, who I know is watching tonight, he's in heaven.
He's laying back, he's got a big smile.
Probably a beverage of his choice, in Coach Royal.
Here's a guy that, uh -- Yes, yes.
Go ahead, please.
[Cheers and applause] In talking to people... "Austin City Limits" would not be what it is today without Coach Royal because he first brought people like Willie Nelson in here and introduced them to this great venue.
He was also very passionate about his family, and we have the first lady of Texas football with us tonight -- and their family -- Ms. Edith Royal.
If you'll come up, Edith.
[Cheers and applause] Darrell loved -- He loved his family, he loved football, and he loved music more than anything.
He just -- He just loved pickin' parties, [chuckles] and we all did.
We all learned to do that.
And people seemed to love to come to our house and listen, and we loved having them there.
Then we loved this venue here.
It was just wonderful.
And all the people that helped make it go.
And there's a lot of you here.
Thank you.
[Cheers and applause] All right.
All right, all right.
Hey, I got to... All right, all right, all right.
That's a fact.
All right.
Eric Clapton was driving in his car the first time he heard him play guitar on the radio, and he said he had to pull over.
He was one of the most influential and innovative electric guitarists in the history of blues music.
In an all-too-short career of only seven years, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble blazed their way to the top.
His life ended at the age of 35, but the music lives on.
Their two appearances on "Austin City Limits" in 1983 and 1989 bookended those exciting years, and in so many ways, Stevie Ray still represents the musical heart and soul of Austin.
Tonight... [Applause] Tonight, we're going to honor them by inducting Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble into the "Austin City Limits" Hall of Fame.
With us here tonight are the original members of Double Trouble -- Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon, and Reese Wynans.
All right.
[Cheers and applause] I have to start by saying that Stevie is still here, he's here in this building.
[Cheers and applause] I feel real honored and grateful for this.
And this goes out to Stevie.
[Applause] Thank you very much for having us here.
Congratulations to "Austin City Limits" for 40 years.
It's great to be back here in this studio.
We had a great time playing here.
I loved our shows here.
I still see them all the time.
Stevie was a big fan of "Austin City Limits."
He was a big influence on us playing here, and he loved it, too.
Thank you.
