In 1963, Oveta Glover was among the first children to desegregate the public schools in South Carolina. Accompanied by her father, the Reverend Dr. Benjamin J. Glover, a renowned civil rights leader, she was admitted to an all-white elementary school in Charleston, nine years after the passage of Brown v. Board of Education.
